There are plenty of recognizable faces slumming it in this homage to Grindhouse and exploitation. Vampires hunting for victims on dating apps is a new touch, but everything else feels by the numbers, maybe to hide this they go over the top with the blood. They enthusiastically chuck buckets of blood around with gusto whenever they can.
The film looks slick and is visually impressive , but it is just schlock.

It may be slicker than Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949) , but it's not as funny or as stylish.. Also the plots are almost identical.

There's plenty of talent in this film , but it feels wasted here. The movie's hollow and never reaches the goals it's aiming for. It's not horrible, but it's not great either ,it's a missed opportunity.

The one line summary. Sad girl is given cursed macguffin and lots of bad things happen.

I knew nothing about this film other than it was horror ,so I had no expectations going in . I feel there's something potentially great about this movie but it doesn't achieve that goal. It falls short . Polly's a complex , damaged and interesting character ,and the film is all about her journey . We get lots of snippets that hint at things but , overall ,it feels as if we're missing something that could make this movie more cohesive and fulfilling
I'm tempted to re-watch this film but there's too much self mutilation in it for me.
If one becomes available I'd like to listen to a commentary and hear what the director and Dakota were trying to achieve.
Overall this is a badly flawed gem which will leave many disappointed and probably frustrated.

My gf at the time absolutely LOVED this book. I remember her re-reading it many times until it was falling apart.

When you come to the topic of Elvis & JFK fighting ancient Egyptian mummies in Texas, no movie does it better ! !
